The phrase "freeroll strategy" has almost seem to become a self-contradiction (aka oxymoron). Sure, I guess whatever action you end up taking could be called a "strategy", but in the end, so many people out there are just clicking buttons without thinking, that you almost might as well do the same thing. Your odds are just about the same. If they're going to play 2-7 offsuit, maybe you should too. At least you'll spit the pot

cant agree with you there
the fact thaat people are playing hard in freerolls is the whole charm with them,
and a good way to learn and maybee win a cent or two...
sure it will be annoying when two guys go allin before you and you call with aa and the show 38o q2o and hits a fullhouse or a straight and you get trips...
i know... it sucks but in the long run you'll do better playing after a strategy
plus alot players play hard to get a big stack early so they can play more conservatively later in the tourny or to late it ride hoping to get ITM on autofold...
i can play like that myself if i know im going out for example...
it can only be one... |

"play hard"?? I call that playing stupid. They're just there because they're bored and have nothing better to do. It ruins the game if you ask me. But that's just my opinion.

My advice for playing huge freeroll tournament fields early on would be to adopt a similar strategy to rebuy tournaments. If we pick up, say eights or nines in an early position, just shove it. With regard to how loosely people are playing in these, more often than not, we will find ourselves all in with the best hand. Remember, it's a freeroll so we got nothing to lose. I know a lot of people think playing ubernitty in these are the way to go, but I don't agree with this. "Waiting for a better spot to outplay our opponents" is a classic poker cliché when it comes to tournaments. But in these tournaments, with the blinds usually escalating more quickly than in regular tournaments, we will end up moving all in for 10bbs with AT-AK and finding ourselves in a flipping situations or worse most of the time. Did we really use our superior skill to outplay our opponents? It is my belief that such scenarios rarely occurs. Take a few risks early, then we can move on to more solid play later on. Like I said, playing a shove/fold style might just be the way to go. Dont be afraid to go broke(without playing stupidly following this thesis). Ofcourse we will overlimp a few speculative hands when we get the chance. People won't pick up on our strategy anyways gl at the tables |
